Kabir, der ein einfacher Weber war, gilt in Indien als einer der grössten Dichter. In Indien ist er vielleicht der meist zitierte Autor zusammen mit Tulsidas. Obwohl Kabir fast alle in Indien existierenden Sekten kritisierte, wird er gerade mit Respekt von orthodoxen Autoren erwähnt. Kabirs Gedichte sind einfach aber ihre spirituellen Inhalte sind nicht leicht aus dem Hindi zu übersetzen.
